Treating Sleep Apnea

sleep apnea symptoms NashvilleOne of the disorders we treat often at Sleep Apnea and TMJ Solutions is sleep apnea. According to the National Institute of Health’s Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, sleep apnea typically affects people who are male, older or overweight. Genetics can also play a role in developing this condition. Smokers, those with high blood pressure, as well as diabetics, may be more at risk.

This condition causes you to experience shallow or interrupted breathing while you sleep.
You may have discovered that you snore loudly or wake up gasping frequently throughout the night. Other symptoms of sleep apnea may include:

  • Headaches in the A.M.
  • Problems with memory or concentration
  • Mood swings or personality changes
  • Waking up frequently to urinate
  • Dry mouth or sore throat
  • Our goal is to identify and create a treatment plan that will return you to a normal sleep schedule as soon as possible. Sleep apnea is usually treated with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices, but our practice also offers smaller devices designed to fit in your mouth instead. We’ll work with you to get you back on track to a more restful sleep.
